US Synthetic, a ChampionX company has an immediate need for a SHE Manager located in Orem, UT. The SHE Manager will develop and administer policies, systems, and standards to create safe and healthy working conditions within US Synthetic. Be responsible for insuring that the facilities and practices adhere to all governmental safety regulations. Oversee OSHA compliance, incident management, and auditing systems to ensure that US Synthetic is following manufacturing safety and environmental standards.

What You Will Do:
- In cooperation with Senior Leadership, develops SHE strategy in support of organizational SHE strategic goals
- Act as a change leader, strengthening the US Synthetic safety culture
- Drive and promote zero incident SHE culture throughout the company
- Support creation of SHE goals for the organization and appropriate activity-based goals for the leadership team, functional managers, and front-line supervisors to drive SHE culture, compliance and results
- Develop effective SHE plans designed to meet goals to reduce injuries, accidents and incidents
- Design and implement effective metrics to track progress, proactively identify areas of concern and drive accountability
- Interface with regulatory bodies (OSHA, DOT, EPA, and State/Local Regulators)
- Monitor, interpret and communicate regulatory changes to organizational leadership
- Develop and implement systems to track and identify gaps in local compliance with (SHE) policies and procedures
- Assist facilities management team in ensuring required regulatory permits are acquired, required reports are submitted to regulatory agencies and any site permit conditions (e.g. recordkeeping, PSM, storm water, special waste, etc.) are met
- Oversee hazardous waste training content
- Inspects containers of hazardous waste
- Signs Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest
- Responds to emergencies and chemical releases
- Makes hazardous waste determinations
- Develop and implement training programs to transfer SHE knowledge and core competencies to all employees
- Assist with the development and presentation of safety training programs
- Interprets trains and consistently enforces Company policies and procedures
- Implement and maintain a Safety Training Observation Program
- Lead a company-wide system to identify and evaluate hazards (risks), and implement effective controls
- Lead incident investigation process, including cause analysis and identification of corrective action plans
- Display strong problem solving, organizational and analytical skills
- Oversees management of SHE staff
- Maintains on-going interaction and open communication with employees, responds to and implements ideas to improve employee engagement
- Active member of ChampionX SHE council
- Implement and maintain the following program policies and their respective elements:
- Hazardous waste management/waste stream identification
- Storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP)
- Coordinate and analyze work environments and design programs to control, eliminate and prevent disease or injury
- Process Waste Water Permits
- State air quality permit
- Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC)
- Used oil
- Management of recyclable materials and by-products
- Management of municipal waste operations and landfill regulations
- Resource Conservation Recovery Act/laws (RCRA)
- Greenhouse gas regulations
- State Radiation Permit
- Oversee First – Responder program
- Laser Program (LSO certified)
- Follow all company policies (Attendance, No Tobacco Products on Campus, Illegal Drug & Alcohol, Family Medical Leave Act, Personal Appearance, Personal Electronic Devices, Vacation & Personal Time, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Industrial Safety or related major. Equivalent combination of education/experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment
- Extensive knowledge of safety policies and applicable OSHA standards
- Immigration sponsorship not available for this role
Physical Demands:
- Lift/move at least 50 lbs.
- Use of safety equipment (Safety glasses, Steel-toed boots, Various PPE when on the floor or in the scrap yard)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health
- Safety Professional Certification
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in SHE
- Strong background in safety with a proven record of results
- Considerable experience with occupational safety, transportation safety, and environmental compliance is preferred
- The ability to drive a strong safety philosophy and implement constructive behavior changes in transportation safety
- Excellent analytical skills
- Excellent employee relations and interpersonal communication skills; ability to interact effectively with all levels of management, supervision and employees
- Demonstrate excellent verbal communication, written communication, and presentation skills
- Leadership and team building skills, able to influence decision makers
- Effectively using time and resources to accomplish overall initiatives and program goals
- The ability to analyze and independently solve a variety of difficult situations and problems.
- Knowledge of OSHA/NIOSH compliance regulations
- Basic computer skills: MS Word, Excel and Power Point
- Knowledge of Lean fundamentals
- Knowledge of US Synthetic manufacturing process
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to identify waste profiles/streams
- Capable of managing multiple projects
